Chicago Cares Business Shares and
Chicago Cares Serve-a-Thon
Urban Innovations encourages volunteering by our employees. Urban Innovations sponsored a Business Shares Project wtih Chicago Cares and we gave our employees a paid day off to provide volunteer work at a Chicago Public School. Our volunteering employees painted hallways, a student lounge, a field house, and constructed, filled, and planted flowers in various planter boxes. Urban Innovations has also sponsored employees to partiipate in Chicago Cares Annual Serve-A-Thon day.

Resident Matching Contributions to Local Fire Departments
Some of our affordable senior housing communities have resident sponsor contribution drives for local fire departments. Urban Innovations has matched the resident contributions for that dollar for dollar.

Fire Prevention Month
For the past few years Urban Innovations has sponsored the design and production of Fire Prevention Month posters for the City of Chicago. Over 100 posters were displayed each year throughout the city and on public transportation to remind people to change the batteries in their smoke detectors. Red Cross Blood Drives
Urban Innovations has hosted blood drives for employees and tenants of our Chicago buildings to help support the Red Cross efforts of maintaining sufficient supplies of blood for emergencies.

Chicago Food Depository Food Drives
Urban Innovations has hosted food drives for employees and tenants to support the Chicago Food Depository's efforts in feeding the homeless and needy in the Chicagoland area.

River North Association
Urban Innovations is very involved in Chicago's River North Association, an organization of businesses that promote the development and support the community of Chicago's River North Area. One of the contributions Urban Innovations provides for this organization is that we participate in hosting a River North Rendezvous event each yeat at one of our buildings.

Chicago Art Dealers Association
To help support the arts in Chicago, Urban Innovations sponsors events for the Chicago Art Dealers Association.

Writers' Theatre
To help support the performing arts in the Chicago area, Urban Innovations is a corporate sponsor of the Writers' Theatre in Glencoe, Illinois.

Archeworks
Urban Innovations sold a lot of land in Chicago for only $1.00 to Archeworks for this organization to build its school. Archeworks is an alternative design school where students work in multidisciplinary teams with nonprofit partners to create design solutions for social concerns.

Earth Hour 2008
Urban Innovations supported the 2008 Chicago Earth Hour event by turning off the electricity for one hour at all its Chicago properties, with the hope of inspiring people to take action on climate change.

Employees Serve on Various Not-for-Profit Boards
Our employees serve on a wide variety of not-for-profit organizations. A sampling includes the following.  Our President, Howard Conant, serves on the board of Archeworks, Writers Theater and the Lawson House YMCA.
